( Willie ) Carrero
was born and raised in New York city. He's also a seasoned guitar player and it shows. At the age of seven, his Father bought him his first guitar; although he Didn't actually start playing until he was 11 years old. His main influences were Jose Feliciano, Carlos Santana, Jimmy Page, And Tony Iommi in the 1970s. Willie has shared the stage with the likes of Christafari, Mylon Lefevre, Morris Chapman, Angelo and Veronica, Jon Gibson, Patty Cabrera, David O'Neill, Scott Anderson, Ray Vega, Loris Holland, Rae Serrano. Among his recording credits, Willie was the featured lead guitarist on the Metro Praise live CD ( DRP Sunset records, Nashville) and was a special Guest on the 2003 released by RAIN get it right CD ( True Life records). Also was a guest on the 2004 release CD W.R.B. ( Wilson Rodriguez Band). Willie has written and recorded 20 instrumentals and still writing.
INFLUENCES
Jimmy Page, Jose Feliciano, Carlos Santana, Toni Iommi, Jimi Hendrix, Heart, Deep Purple, The Beatles, Bad Company and Pink Floyd. The top row four artists were my heavy influences, the others inspired me to go in different directions which resulted in wood shedding. We all need to find our inner selves.
THOUGHTS
I believe my tone is more of a tenor or a viola and very vocal as well. I love melody phrases with a balance of some fast runs just to go for a certain cry. When someone gives me original music to work on or just to add guitar solos; I don't have a clue where to go, but I'll listen to the songs several times and begin to structure the lead lines until the story is complete.
People have said to me I sound a lot like Eric Johnson, Carlos Santana and Jimmy Page.
I guess the influence is evident…. I really had to practice hard to shape my sound to effect the human Soul without really abandoning the root styles that I love so much. It's important to make your own statement through music so that the listener can relate to you and in return make them experience joy. To me the guitar is more than just a piece of wood with strings, but more like a living positive weapon which can bring down the WALLS of Jericho or healing depression. Real HEALING!
I've learned through the years that applying a feel in your playing is better than technique because technical players - yes-they can impress the listener, but for instance I rather go see a show with guitar players who can touch the heart through soulful inner testimony or feeling... instead of just fancy techniques like super light year fast runs that leave you in blinded intro, or some other fancy techniques. I like the balance of both up to a point. But it's still more about feeling. To me...."Gary Moore, Joe Satriani, Carlos Santana, Jimi Hendrix, and The Beatles" are all great players of expression.
I lived in NYC all my life, I'm a composer and professional guitarist. I also love the world of entertainment. I put this site up to connect with my family tree on my Father's side. My Father's name is Wilfredo Carrero but everyone knows him as Feo. He resides in Puerto Rico.
My Family (tree) interest and search is really on my Father's side of the Family only since I have very little information about them.
